Atom Indonesia (AI) is fully committed to the permanent availability, digital preservation, and global accessibility of all published content. We employ a multi-layered archiving strategy to safeguard scholarly works, ensure long-term discoverability, and maintain compliance with international best practices.
1. Publisher-Managed Archiving
The journal maintains a high-specification digital infrastructure to store and protect all published records. To ensure future-proofing against evolving technologies, each article is preserved in both PDF and XML (machine-readable) formats.
Our redundancy protocol includes:
- Active Online Hosting: One primary server for immediate public access.
- Offline Backups: Two independent backup systems to ensure recovery in the event of system failure. Access is guaranteed to be restored within 24–36 hours of any compromise.
- Global Initiatives: AI participates in LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) and CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS). These decentralized systems allow global libraries and institutions to preserve AI content independently and securely.
2. Indexing-Based Preservation
Metadata and, in many cases, full-text articles are archived by our indexing partners, including Scopus, Clarivate, EBSCO, Dimensions, Google Scholar, SINTA, and Garuda. This ensures that multiple external gateways remain available should the primary journal platform experience downtime. Every article is assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) via CrossRef to ensure persistent citation and location.
3. Author Self-Archiving
To maximize research visibility, AI encourages authors to self-archive their work. Authors are permitted to deposit Preprints, Postprints, or the Version of Record (Final PDF) into:
- Institutional or subject-based repositories.
- Personal or professional websites.
This may be done immediately upon publication without an embargo period, provided the official journal version is cited and linked. All archiving must comply with the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) license.
4. Metadata Harvesting
AI adheres to the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH). By making our metadata openly available, we enable third-party digital libraries and discovery platforms to harvest and redistribute our research output, significantly enhancing global dissemination.
5. Policy in the Event of Discontinuation
While AI is committed to publishing indefinitely, we have established a "sunset" protocol for total security. If publication ceases:
- The complete journal archive will remain accessible online for a minimum of 10 years.
- LOCKSS and CLOCKSS will serve as permanent alternative access points.
- All articles will remain discoverable via their respective DOIs and indexing platforms.
6. Data Preservation During Litigation or Complaints
In the event of legal claims, formal complaints, or subpoenas, AI implements a strict data-retention protocol:
- Immediate Preservation: All relevant digital files and records are frozen to prevent deletion or tampering.
- Mandatory Backups: Editors and staff are required to transfer all locally stored data to secure institutional servers.
- Compliance: Records will be retained as required by legal protocols. Any deliberate destruction of such data is considered a serious ethical breach and will be subject to disciplinary action.
